How to Choose a Coffee Capsule Sealing Solution? Start With Powder and Film Material

Coffee capsule packaging is not only about machine name. First confirm capsule diameter, depth, powder type, dosing accuracy, sealing film, and whether nitrogen flushing is needed, then decide between an integrated filling and sealing machine, rotary multi-station machine, or MAP sealing route.

Start With the Current Production Conditions

I want to package coffee capsules. What equipment should I choose?

First determine the packaging route

Coffee capsule packaging is not only about machine name. First confirm capsule diameter, depth, powder type, dosing accuracy, sealing film, and whether nitrogen flushing is needed, then decide between an integrated filling and sealing machine, rotary multi-station machine, or MAP sealing route.

Integrated Coffee Capsule Filling and Sealing Machine

Suitable for: Automatic cup dropping, quantitative filling, film placement, heat sealing, and discharge of capsules for coffee powder, granules, or tea powder. Advantages: From cup dropping to sealing completed on one machine, reducing intermediate transfer. Limitations: Molds must be customized per capsule diameter, depth, and film material; mold change required for changeovers. Not recommended: When multiple significantly different capsule sizes need to be accommodated simultaneously, changeover cost is high. Equipment direction: We have released a coffee capsule filling and sealing machine that can handle automatic cup dropping, filling, sealing, and discharge.

Rotary Multi-station Sealing Machine (General Cups and Boxes)

Suitable for: sealing small cups, trays, or capsules, can be equipped with a filling module. Advantages: multi-station rotary structure, suitable for medium capacity and multiple cup size changeovers. Limitations: need to confirm capsule compatibility with rotary mold and filling consistency. Not recommended: when capsule diameter is too small or depth too large, rotary positioning may be unstable. Equipment direction: we have released a rotary multi-station sealer, can evaluate adding a filling module.

Desktop Small-cup Sealing Machine (Semi-automatic)

Suitable for: Small batch prototyping, laboratory, or startup brands, manual cup and film placement. Advantages: Low investment, flexible changeover, suitable for multi-specification testing. Limitations: Low capacity, relies on manual operation, not suitable for continuous high-volume production. Not recommended: When target capacity exceeds 800 cups per hour, upgrade to automatic line is advised. Equipment direction: We have released the small-diameter cup sealer SGP-03, which can handle small batch sealing.

Recommended equipment route: Sample and container confirmation

Physical samples are needed to confirm capsule diameter, depth, rim flatness, and film compatibility.

Recommended Equipment Route: Main Filling and Sealing Machine

The integrated machine completes cup dropping, quantitative filling, film placing, and heat sealing, suitable for coffee-capsule packaging.

Recommended Equipment Route: Downstream Coding and Inspection

Print production date or traceability code; checkweighing can reject products with incorrect filling weight.

Route comparison

01Integrated Coffee Capsule Filling and Sealing Machine
  • Suitable for automatic capsule dropping, dosing, film placement, heat sealing, and discharge of coffee powder, granules, or tea powder capsules.
  • Cup dropping through sealing is completed on one machine, reducing intermediate transfer.
  • Tooling must be customized by capsule diameter, depth, and film material, and changed during changeover.
  • When several very different capsule specifications must be supported, changeover cost is higher.
  • Our published coffee capsule filling and sealing machine can handle automatic capsule dropping, filling, sealing, and discharge.
02Rotary Multi-station Sealing Machine (General Cups and Boxes)
  • Suitable for sealing small cups, trays, or capsules, with optional filling module.
  • Multi-station rotary structure, suitable for medium output and switching between several cup types.
  • Confirm whether the capsule fits the rotary tooling and whether filling consistency meets requirements.
  • If the capsule opening is too small or too deep, rotary positioning may become unstable.
  • Our published rotary multi-station sealing machine can be evaluated with a filling module.
03Desktop Small-cup Sealing Machine (Semi-automatic)
  • Suitable for small-batch sampling, laboratories, or startup brands with manual cup and film placement.
  • low investment and flexible changeover, suitable for multi-spec sample testing
  • Output is relatively low and depends on manual operation, so it is not suitable for continuous high-volume production.
  • When target output exceeds 800 cups per hour, upgrading to an automatic route is recommended.
  • Our published small-diameter cup sealer SGP-03 can handle small-batch sealing.

01Preparation material 1

Photos and dimensions can first determine container positioning, mold direction, and whether sample testing is needed.

Coffee capsule samples or dimension drawings, including diameter, depth, and rim width, help confirm tooling and filling nozzles.
02Preparation material 2

Photos and dimensions can first determine container positioning, mold direction, and whether sample testing is needed.

Sealing film samples or specifications, including material, thickness, and easy-peel requirement, are needed for sealing parameter tests.
03Preparation material 3

Photos and dimensions can first determine container positioning, mold direction, and whether sample testing is needed.

Powder samples or condition descriptions, including fineness, flowability, and oil content, help confirm the filling method.
04Preparation material 4

Capacity target determines single machine, semi-automatic, or continuous inline configuration, and also affects the quotation range.

Target output, such as pieces per hour or per day, helps determine the number of stations and automation level.
05Preparation material 5

Site conditions affect electrical control, pneumatics, conveyor length, and safety protection configuration.

Site photos or layout sketches, including space dimensions, power supply, and line-connection needs, help evaluate installation conditions.

Common selection mistakes

01Capsule Specification Not Confirmed in Advance
02sealing film material not tested
03powder condition overlooked
04capacity target unclear
05no downstream inspection interface reserved

Common questions

01Can we determine the direction without complete information?

Yes. First send capsule photos, approximate dimensions and target output. We will determine the approach, then list what samples are needed.

02What information needs to be prepared before a quotation?

It is recommended to prepare capsule samples or dimensions, sealing film samples, powder material description, target capacity, and site photos. Incomplete data is acceptable; we can communicate first.

03How does capacity affect the configuration?

Production target changes the number of stations, automation level, and line integration. Small batches can use manual or semi-automatic; large batches recommend fully automatic line integration.

04Why test consumables or film materials?

Different films have different heat sealing temperatures, pressures, and sealing effects. They need to be tested with the capsule rim to determine the appropriate parameters.

05How to confirm sealing or closure effectiveness?

Sealing status must be confirmed through capsule sample, film material, and sealing parameter testing. It is recommended to provide physical samples for sealing tests.

06How to determine whether a linked line is needed?

If upstream has automatic feeding, downstream requires coding or checkweighing, and capacity demands continuous production, it is recommended to evaluate a line integration solution.
