How to Choose Powder Filling and Sealing? Start With Material State and Output

Powder packaging should not be selected only by looking for a powder filling machine. First confirm flour flowability, dust level, target weight, bag type, sealing method, and inspection requirements. Then decide between screw dosing, weighing filling, or a premade pouch filling and sealing route.

Start With the Current Production Conditions

I need to pack flour. What kind of filling and sealing equipment should I choose?

First determine the packaging route

Powder packaging should not be selected only by looking for a powder filling machine. First confirm flour flowability, dust level, target weight, bag type, sealing method, and inspection requirements. Then decide between screw dosing, weighing filling, or a premade pouch filling and sealing route.

Premade Pouch Filling and Sealing Route

Suitable for automatic pouch feeding, dosing, filling, and sealing of flour, starch, and similar powders in premade pouches such as three-side-seal bags, back-seal bags, and stand-up pouches. Advantage: automatic pouch picking, opening, filling, and sealing reduces manual contact with dust. Limit: pouch thickness, heat-seal performance, and flour flowability must be confirmed to decide whether screw dosing or cup dosing is suitable. Not recommended when the flour contains lumps or has very poor flowability; feeding stability should be tested first to avoid inaccurate dosing or powder trapped in the seal. Equipment direction: a premade pouch filling and sealing machine can be combined with a powder and granule filling machine for automatic dosing and sealing.

Continuous bag sealing route

Suitable for continuous sealing of prefilled semi-finished bags, such as bags filled manually or by a semi-automatic filler, including three-side-seal bags and back-seal bags. Advantage: continuous sealing speed is adjustable and suits low to medium output bag-mouth heat sealing. Limit: pouch mouth width, film thickness, and sealing temperature must be confirmed in advance, otherwise weak sealing or burn-through may occur. Not recommended when a fully automatic process from pouch handling to filling and sealing is required; this route needs extra filling equipment and is less compact than an integrated premade pouch machine. Equipment direction: a continuous bag sealer can be used as the sealing station after filling.

Powder and Granule Filling Machine + Premade Pouch Sealing Line

Suitable for powders such as flour and milk powder that require higher filling accuracy, for example 500 g to 5 kg, paired with a premade pouch sealing machine for automatic packaging. Advantage: the dosing tolerance should be confirmed through sample testing; it suits quantitative packaging and can connect filling, sealing, coding, and checkweighing. Limit: flour bulk density and flowability must be confirmed to choose screw dosing or weighing, and the pouch mouth size must match the filling nozzle. Not recommended when output demand is very low, such as only a few hundred bags per day; a stand-alone semi-automatic setup may be more economical. Equipment direction: a powder and granule filling machine can be combined with a premade pouch filling and sealing machine or continuous sealer to build the line.

Recommended equipment route: Powder metering filling.

Flour is a powder, so screw dosing or weighing is usually required. The equipment can be configured for powders with different flowability.

Recommended equipment route: premade pouch feeding, filling, and sealing

Automatically picks pouches, opens them, fills, and seals them. This suits premade pouch packaging and reduces manual contact with dust.

Recommended equipment route: date and batch coding

Print production date and batch number after sealing or on the pouch surface to support traceability.

Recommended equipment route: in-line checkweighing as an option

Checks whether each pouch weight is qualified and rejects out-of-tolerance packs, helping reduce shipment quality risk.

Route comparison

01Premade Pouch Filling and Sealing Route
  • Suitable for automatic pouch feeding, dosing, filling, and sealing of flour, starch, and similar powders in premade pouches such as three-side-seal bags, back-seal bags, and stand-up pouches.
  • Automatic pouch picking, opening, filling, and sealing reduces manual contact with dust.
  • Pouch thickness, heat-seal performance, and flour flowability must be confirmed to decide whether screw dosing or cup dosing is suitable.
  • If the flour contains lumps or has very poor flowability, test feeding stability first. Otherwise, inaccurate dosing or powder trapped in the seal may occur.
  • We can provide a premade pouch filling and sealing machine combined with a powder and granule filling machine for automatic dosing and sealing.
02Continuous bag sealing route
  • Suitable for continuous sealing of prefilled semi-finished bags, such as bags filled manually or by a semi-automatic filler, including three-side-seal bags and back-seal bags.
  • Continuous sealing speed is adjustable and suits low to medium output bag-mouth heat sealing.
  • Pouch mouth width, film thickness, and sealing temperature must be confirmed in advance. Otherwise, weak sealing or film burn-through may occur.
  • If the requirement is a fully automatic process from pouch handling to filling and sealing, this route needs additional filling equipment and is less compact than an integrated premade pouch machine.
  • We can provide a continuous bag sealer as the sealing station after filling.
03Powder and Granule Filling Machine + Premade Pouch Sealing Line
  • Suitable for powders such as flour and milk powder that require higher filling accuracy, for example 500 g to 5 kg, paired with a premade pouch sealing machine for automatic packaging.
  • The dosing tolerance should be confirmed through sample testing. This route suits quantitative packaging and can be connected for filling, sealing, coding, and checkweighing.
  • The bulk density and flowability of the flour must be confirmed to choose screw dosing or weighing. The pouch mouth size also needs to match the filling nozzle.
  • If output demand is very low, such as only a few hundred bags per day, a stand-alone semi-automatic setup may be more economical than forcing a connected line.
  • We can provide a powder and granule filling machine combined with a premade pouch filling and sealing machine or a continuous sealer to build the line.

Common selection mistakes

01Only asking for a powder filling machine without providing bag type and bag material
02Ignoring the impact of flour dust on the equipment
03Assuming one machine can handle all powders
04Not confirming pouch-mouth cleanliness
05Confusing standalone machines with inline systems

Common questions

01How much does flour packaging equipment cost?

The price depends on dosing method, bag type, output, and whether line integration is required. It should be confirmed based on samples and parameters, not a fixed price range.

02How many bags of flour can be packed per hour?

A premade pouch filling and sealing machine commonly reaches about 1500-3000 bags per hour, depending on pouch size and dosing speed.

03Can you quote first without a flour sample?

Yes. We can first estimate the equipment direction from pouch size and target output, but final quotation should be confirmed with sample testing for dosing accuracy and sealing performance.

04What consumables are needed for flour packaging?

The main consumable is the premade pouch. Coding may also require ink or ribbon, and sealing tooling may need to be customized according to the bag type.

05What should I do if flour bags leak powder at the seal?

Check whether the pouch mouth is clean, whether sealing temperature is suitable, and whether the bag material matches the process. The filling nozzle may need anti-drip or anti-spill adjustment.

06Does a flour packaging line need to be connected?

Small batches can use stand-alone machines. For larger batches, connected filling, sealing, coding, and checkweighing can reduce manual handling and variation.
