  • How to choose flour powder bagging, metering filling, and sealing packaging?

Real customer problem

I want to pack flour, 1 kg to 5 kg per bag, using premade pouches. What equipment should I choose?

First determine the packaging route

Powder packaging for flour, starch, milk powder, seasoning powder, and similar materials is not only about a filling machine. First confirm powder flowability, dust level, target weight, bag type, sealing method, and whether checkweighing is needed; then decide between auger metering, weighing filling, premade pouch filling and sealing, or continuous bag sealing.

Auger Metering Filling + Premade Pouch Sealing

Suitable for: powders with good flowability and moderate dust, such as flour, starch, and milk powder, packed in premade pouches such as three-side-seal or back-seal bags, with single-bag weight from 100 g to 5 kg. Advantages: auger metering has a mature structure; during changeover, auger speed and filling time can be adjusted, making it suitable for multiple specifications. Premade pouch sealing gives a neat appearance and controllable sealing strength. Limitations: powder flowability and whether the powder contains lumps must be confirmed. If dust is heavy, a dust hood or dust collection interface should be considered. Powder residue at the bag mouth will affect sealing quality. Not recommended when: the powder has very poor flowability, bridges easily, or high-speed line production is required; in these cases, weighing filling or combination metering should be evaluated. Equipment...

Weighing Filling + Premade Pouch Sealing

Suitable for: projects with high weight-accuracy requirements, larger package sizes from 5 kg to 25 kg, or unstable powder flowability, such as flour, feed powder, and chemical powders. Advantages: weighing filling controls directly by target weight and is less affected by density fluctuation. The error range should be confirmed by sample testing. It is suitable for large bags and applications requiring weight traceability. Limitations: weighing filling is usually slower than auger filling, so the number of heads and takt should be confirmed according to target output. The equipment occupies more space and needs a stable feeding system. Not recommended when: the package size is small, below 1 kg, and speed demand is high; auger metering should be evaluated first. Equipment direction: a weighing bucket filling machine for large bags or a powder and granule filling machine with weighing...

Continuous Bag Sealing for Pre-Filled Bags

Suitable for: powder bags already filled by another method, where only sealing is required, such as manually filled flour bags or small powder pouches. Advantages: the equipment is simple, compact, and low cost, suitable for small batches or sampling. Sealing speed is adjustable and can adapt to different bag lengths and sealing temperatures. Limitations: bag material must be confirmed as heat-sealable, and bag-mouth powder contamination must be checked. If dust remains at the mouth, cleaning or parameter adjustment is needed before sealing. Not recommended when: the full process from bag feeding, filling, to sealing is required from the start; a continuous sealer alone cannot complete it and must be paired with filling equipment. Equipment direction: a continuous bag sealer can be used as downstream sealing equipment after filling and can also be connected with a conveyor line.

Recommended equipment route: Powder metering filling.

Auger metering is used. It is suitable for flour and similar powders, with adjustable filling volume and stable accuracy.

Recommended equipment route: premade pouch feeding and sealing

Automatically pick, open, fill, and seal pouches. Suitable for premade pouch packaging, with neat and strong sealing.

Recommended Equipment Route: Downstream Coding and Inspection

Print production date and batch number, and use checkweighing to confirm weight compliance. Suitable for food and export requirements.

  • Suitable for powders with good flowability and moderate dust, such as flour, starch, and milk powder, packed in premade pouches such as three-side-seal or back-seal bags, with single-bag weight from 100 g to 5 kg.
  • Auger metering has a mature structure. During changeover, auger speed and filling time can be adjusted, making it suitable for multiple specifications. Premade pouch sealing gives a neat appearance and controllable sealing strength.
  • Powder flowability and whether the powder contains lumps must be confirmed. If dust is heavy, a dust hood or dust collection interface should be considered. Powder residue at the bag mouth will affect sealing quality.
  • If the powder has very poor flowability, bridges easily, or high-speed line production is required, auger metering may not be stable enough. Weighing filling or combination metering should be evaluated.
  • Available equipment direction: a powder and granule filling machine with auger metering can be matched with a premade pouch filling and sealing machine to integrate bag feeding, filling, and sealing.
02Weighing Filling + Premade Pouch Sealing
  • Suitable for projects with high weight-accuracy requirements, larger package sizes from 5 kg to 25 kg, or unstable powder flowability, such as flour, feed powder, and chemical powders.
  • Weighing filling controls directly by target weight and is less affected by density fluctuation. The error range should be confirmed by sample testing. It is suitable for large bags and applications requiring weight traceability.
  • Weighing filling is usually slower than auger filling, so the number of heads and takt should be confirmed according to target output. The equipment occupies more space and needs a stable feeding system.
  • If the package size is small, below 1 kg, and speed demand is high, weighing filling may not be efficient enough; auger metering should be evaluated first.
  • Available equipment direction: a weighing bucket filling machine for large bags or a powder and granule filling machine with weighing module can be matched with a premade pouch filling and sealing machine or continuous sealer.
03Continuous Bag Sealing for Pre-Filled Bags
  • Suitable for powder bags already filled by another method, where only sealing is required, such as manually filled flour bags or small powder pouches.
  • The equipment is simple, compact, and low cost, suitable for small batches or sampling. Sealing speed is adjustable and can adapt to different bag lengths and sealing temperatures.
  • Bag material must be confirmed as heat-sealable, and bag-mouth powder contamination must be checked. If dust remains at the mouth, cleaning or parameter adjustment is needed before sealing.
  • If the full process from bag feeding, filling, to sealing is required from the start, a continuous sealer alone cannot complete it and must be paired with filling equipment.
  • Available equipment direction: a continuous bag sealer can be used as downstream sealing equipment after filling and can also be connected with a conveyor line.

Sample details

01Preparation material 1

Photos and dimensions can first determine container positioning, mold direction, and whether sample testing is needed.

Powder sample or photos: confirm flowability, whether it lumps, and dust level; these affect metering method and dust-control design.
02Preparation material 2

Film material and liner affect sealing temperature, pressure, dwell time, and feeding method.

Premade pouch sample or dimensions: bag width, bag length, and film structure affect tooling, sealing temperature, and sealing strength.
03Preparation material 3

Capacity target determines single machine, semi-automatic, or continuous inline configuration, and also affects the quotation range.

Target package weight and output: for example, 1 kg per bag and bags per hour; this determines equipment model and number of heads.
04Preparation material 4

Inline requirements affect equipment sequence, cycle time matching, and downstream inspection methods.

Whether line integration or downstream inspection is needed: coding, checkweighing, metal detection, and similar requirements affect whole-line layout and budget.
05Preparation material 5

Photos and dimensions can first determine container positioning, mold direction, and whether sample testing is needed.

If information is incomplete, send available photos and dimensions first. We will judge the route first, then provide a confirmation checklist.

Common selection mistakes

01Only asking for a powder filling machine without providing bag type
02Ignoring the impact of dust on sealing.
03Assuming auger metering is suitable for all powders
04Quoting Without Confirming Film Material
05Confusing standalone machines with inline systems

Common questions

01How much does flour packaging equipment cost?

The price depends on metering method, bag type, output, and whether line integration is required. Send samples and target output first, and we will quote after confirming the configuration.

02How many bags can it pack per hour?

A single-head auger metering unit with a premade pouch sealing machine usually reaches about 30 to 50 bags per minute, depending on filling volume and bag type.

03Can you quote first without bag samples?

A directional estimate can be made first, but a formal quote requires bag samples to confirm tooling and sealing parameters. Photos and dimensions can be sent first.

04Do I need to prepare the sealing film and bags myself?

Yes. Premade pouches and sealing film are usually purchased by the customer; we can provide specification recommendations.

05Flour has heavy dust. Does the equipment need explosion-proof configuration?

If flour dust concentration reaches the explosion limit, explosion-proof configuration must be evaluated. Please provide site environment information so we can help judge.

06Can this machine pack both flour and milk powder?

If the powder flowability is similar, changeover can be done by adjusting auger parameters and sealing temperature, but sample testing is recommended first.
