How to Choose High-viscosity Honey Filling and Sealing? Start With Viscosity, Temperature, Bottle Mouth and Sealing Method

For high-viscosity honey filling and sealing, first confirm container, material, film, cap type, capacity, and on-site line integration needs. Equipment route includes sample and container confirmation, filling equipment, sealing equipment. Submit sample photos, dimensions, and target capacity to facilitate equipment matching and quotation.

  • Honey filling and sealing should not be selected by filling machine name alone. First confirm honey condition, whether heating is needed, container mouth, cap structure, and target output, then judge the sequence of filling, screw capping, foil sealing, or heat-press sealing.
  • How to choose filling and sealing for high-viscosity honey

Start With the Current Production Conditions

Honey is very thick. How should filling and sealing equipment be selected?

First determine the packaging route

Honey filling and sealing should not be selected by filling machine name alone. First confirm honey condition, whether heating is needed, container mouth, cap structure, and target output, then judge the sequence of filling, screw capping, foil sealing, or heat-press sealing.

Piston Filling + Capping Route

Suitable for: Honey bottling, wide-mouth jars, or drums with stable fill volume, high viscosity, and no particles. Advantages: Piston structure adapts well to high-viscosity materials; filling consistency is easy to control. Limitations: Need to confirm whether honey requires heating to reduce viscosity, and anti-drip nozzle design. Not recommended: If honey contains honeycomb fragments or requires weighing filling, consider rotor pump or weighing filler first. Equipment direction: We have released a servo piston liquid filler that can be used with heated hoppers and anti-drip filling nozzle assemblies.

Rotor Pump Filling + Capping Route

Suitable for: Honey with small particles, crystallization, or requiring gentle conveying. Advantages: Rotor pump minimizes shear, suitable for honey with particles or delicate structure. Limitations: Need to confirm honey viscosity, temperature, and pump cleaning method. Not recommended: For very small fill volumes or extremely high accuracy, piston filling may be more suitable. Equipment direction: Our published rotor pump sauce filler can be equipped with heated hopper and anti-drip components.

Pail Packaging Weighing Filling + Heat-press Sealing Route

Suitable for: Large honey pails (5kg+) requiring weight-based filling and heat sealing of aluminum foil film. Advantages: Weigh filling directly controls target weight, suitable for bulk and export orders. Limitations: Need to confirm pail opening flatness, film compatibility, and sealing temperature parameters. Not recommended: If the pail opening has threads and requires capping, first evaluate capping or pressing solutions. Equipment direction: We have released weigh-filling pail fillers and pail heat sealers that can be used inline.

Recommended equipment route: Sample and container confirmation

Honey viscosity changes greatly with temperature, so actual samples are needed to test filling and sealing parameters.

Recommended Equipment Route: Filling Equipment

Choose piston filling or rotor-pump filling according to honey condition, and use a heated hopper to maintain flowability.

Recommended Equipment Route: Sealing Equipment

Bottles are usually capped first before evaluating induction foil sealing; pails can use heat-press foil film sealing.

Recommended Equipment Route: Downstream Assistance

Configure labeling, coding, and conveying according to shipment requirements for traceability and packaging.

Route comparison

01Piston Filling + Capping Route
  • Suitable for honey in bottles, wide-mouth jars, or pails where filling volume is stable, viscosity is high, and no particles are present.
  • Piston structure handles high-viscosity materials well and makes filling consistency easier to control.
  • Confirm whether honey requires heating to reduce viscosity and what anti-drip filling nozzle structure is needed.
  • If honey contains honeycomb pieces or requires weight-based filling, evaluate a rotor pump or weight-based filling first.
  • Our published servo piston liquid filling machine can be configured with a heated hopper and anti-drip filling nozzles.
02Rotor Pump Filling + Capping Route
  • Honey projects containing slight particles, crystallization, or requiring gentle transfer.
  • Rotor pumps apply low shear, suitable for honey products with particles or fragile structure.
  • Confirm honey viscosity and temperature, as well as the pump cleaning method.
  • For extremely small filling volume or very high accuracy, piston filling may be more suitable.
  • Our published rotor-pump sauce filling machine can work with insulated hoppers and anti-drip components.
03Pail Packaging Weighing Filling + Heat-press Sealing Route
  • Large-volume honey buckets above 5 kg require weighing filling and aluminum foil film heat sealing.
  • Weighing filling controls by target weight and suits large packages and export orders.
  • Confirm bucket rim flatness, film compatibility, and sealing temperature parameters.
  • If the bucket mouth has threads and capping is required, evaluate a capping or cap-pressing solution first.
  • Our published weighing bucket filling machine and bucket heat-sealing machine can be connected as a line.

Common questions

01Can we determine the direction without complete information?

Yes. First send photos of the honey, container, and approximate capacity. We can preliminarily determine the filling and sealing route, then list the samples needed.

02What information needs to be prepared before a quotation?

Honey samples or videos, container dimensions, lid or film samples, target capacity, and site conditions are needed. The more complete the information, the closer the quotation will be to the actual configuration.

03How does capacity affect the configuration?

Production capacity determines the number of filling heads, capping speed, sealing method, and whether to integrate into a line. Small batches can use standalone machines, while large batches require multi-head filling and automatic line integration.

04Why test consumables or film materials?

Different films require different sealing temperature, pressure, and sealing results. Suitable parameters can only be confirmed through sample testing.

05How to confirm sealing or closure effectiveness?

Sealing performance must be confirmed through samples, packaging material, and parameter testing, including seal strength, leakage testing, and appearance inspection.

06How to determine whether a linked line is needed?

If filling, capping, sealing, and labeling require continuous production with high output, a line is recommended. For small batches, stand-alone machines can be used first.
